| In yoga studios and gyms, it is customary to use a yoga mat, sometimes called a "sticky" mat. The mat helps outline your personal space, but more importantly, it creates traction for your hands and feet so you don’t slip, especially if perspiring. |
| The mat also provides some cushioning on a hard floor. Most studios have mats for rent, usually for a dollar or two per class. The disadvantage is that lots of people use them and you can never be sure how clean they are. |
