| TENS is the abbreviation for "Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation". | Therapeutic Modes: Most Basic TENS devices offer 3 modes: Normal (continuous train of impulses), Burst (several bursts per second of impulses), and Modulated or MRW (pulse rate and width are varied in a cycle to overcome the nerves' "accommodation" to steady stimulus). Further variation for different stimulation is offered if devices have Strength Duration or SD Mode (it alternates modulation of intensity with modulation of pulse width), and Bi-Pulse Mode (delivers different pulse rates at once to two channels). Some devices add two EMS modes, Asymmetric and Symmetric, for stimulating muscle contractions. It is best to consult your doctor to get advice on which TENS device is suited to your needs. |
